Aubrey Education Foundation (AEF) Senior Scholarships
MULTIPLE AWARDS FROM ONE FOUNDATION, and the recipient count is what makes this worth a senior's time: AEF awarded 27 scholarships totaling $23,320 to Aubrey High School seniors in a recent published cycle - roughly $860 average, but the point is that 27 awards at a school the size of Aubrey High means a very large share of the graduating class receives something rather than a single winner-take-all prize. The foundation is financially substantial for a small-district foundation, reporting approximately $804,000 in total assets as of 2024, so the scholarship program is well funded and not a token line item. AEF is known for surprising recipients at their homes with the announcement and balloons rather than a mail-merge letter, which is a small sign of an actively run, personally administered program.
DeadlineANNUAL SPRING CYCLE tied to graduation - awards are announced to seniors near the end of the school year. The district's AEF page does NOT post the open and close dates for the current cycle, so treat the page as the information hub and NOT the application itself. GET THE ACTUAL DATES FROM THE AUBREY HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELING OFFICE, which is where this district distributes the local application, and confirm with AEF through the district page. Plan on an application released in late winter or early spring and closing in spring. IMPORTANT: an un-posted or lagging date on an otherwise active foundation is NOT a dead program - AEF is a currently operating 501(c)(3) with substantial assets, and this is different from a stale POSTED deadline. Email or call the counseling office for the current cycle date rather than assuming the program ended.
EligibilityGraduating seniors of AUBREY ISD (Aubrey High School), Aubrey, Denton County, Texas. The Aubrey Education Foundation's stated mission is to enhance the quality of education and educational opportunities for Aubrey ISD students by raising and providing extra-budgetary financial resources through BOTH teacher grants AND student scholarships - the presence of student scholarships as a distinct funded track alongside teacher grants is the reliable tell that a real student award exists here, as opposed to the many Texas ISD foundations that fund teacher grants only. Make sure you are completing the SCHOLARSHIP application and not the teacher grant application. Because the foundation gives a large number of individually funded awards rather than one pool, students who are not at the very top of the class still have a realistic shot - apply even if you are mid-pack. COLLISION WARNING: Aubrey, TEXAS is in DENTON COUNTY (940 area code, aubreytx.gov / aubreyisd.net, ZIP 76227) - do not confuse this with the AUBREY LEE BROOKS SCHOLARSHIP, which is a completely unrelated NORTH CAROLINA program restricted to graduating seniors from a 14-county area of North Carolina attending North Carolina universities, and which dominates search results for the word 'Aubrey' plus 'scholarship'. Texas students are NOT eligible for the North Carolina award.
